White Chocolate Truffle Halloween Dessert

Do you remember the good old Michael Jackson’s music video “Thriller”? When I was a teenager, I simply adored that video! Well, a few days ago a culinary “thriller” took place in our home. Twenty furious little mummies suddenly rose up from their chocolate chests determined to spook us off! But, we didn’t give up! During this chocolate attack we proudly fought the little mummies with the only weapon that was effective – we devoured them with gusto 🙂 . You don’t believe me? Just take a look at the photo, and it will all make sense!

Now, that things make as little more sense, maybe you wish to try your luck against those sweet little mummies! They are nothing but simple cola-flavored chocolate truffles melted and decorated with white chocolate. It sounds tasty? Believe me it is!  After taking just a one bite, my husband commented that he hadn’t tasted anything that good quite some time. But, if you don’t want believe him, because all of his statements are full of such statements, believe me; I simple fell in love with them.

What is even better is that you don’t have to be a great chef to make them. With small amounts of black and white chocolate, some biscuit, cola and butter, you can make a gorgeous dessert perfect for the upcoming Halloween party. There is only one thing that can cause you trouble- it takes a lot of time for the mummy truffles to cool off before you can start melting them in white chocolate and after that you need to wait for the chocolate to harden as well. The rest is a piece of cake!

As for the combat with mummy truffles that awaits you, don’t worry, though it can be difficult and demanding, I’m sure you will come out as a winner!

These sound delicious. Will definitely make them. Could you tell me what type of cookie you used? Thanks, Lora

Hi Lora, I’m glad that you want to try my recipe. You can use Golden Oreo, just scrap down the filling, or some other crispy vanilla biscuit.
I’m looking forward to hear how do you like the truffles.
All the best!

Not sure that I understand what you mean by “scraping down”. Do you mean to take the filling out of the oreos and just us the cookie parts?

These are adorable! I may make them and take them in as a halloween treat to work next week! Would you recommend using the oreos and that way you have the little bit of cream in the middle that would make the truffle smoother? Thanks!

If you use whole Oreo with the filling, you should reduce a bit the amount of Coca-cola. Truffle will be smoother from filling, but it might be hard to roll them and stay in shape at the room temperature.

Question: The chocolate that is melted – is that bittersweet, milk chocolate, dark chocolate? I want to use this recipe at my grandson’s wedding reception (10-31!), Many thanks!

Dear Mrs. Montoya,
I’m honored because you decided to try my recipe for such an important occasion.
I use semi-sweet baking chocolate.
Best wishes to future newlyweds!

Hi Myriam,
just keep the truffles in the refrigerator, there’s no need to freeze them.

Hi, can’t wait to try these for Halloween!! How long can they keep in the fridge please?? Is a week too long? Xx

Reply
Vera Zecevic October 26, 2013 - 9:03 am

Dear Diane,

I’ve never manage to kept the truffles that long because we always eat them in a few days, but I think that it wont be a problem to keep them for a week or more.Just don’t make the eyes that early because the color might dissolve.

Hi! I tried making the inside and it turned out well, but when I put them in the fridge, it won’t harden enough to roll into small balls. Any idea on what I did wrong or what I can do? Thanks:)

Reply
Vera Zecevic October 8, 2014 - 12:40 pm

Hi Tiffani, just add more grounded cookies and stir well, then put it back to fridgre for awhile. I hope this will help.

I tried this and failed hard. The white chocolate immediately began melting the chocolate balls as we dipped them. In the end there was no saving them. They tasted really good but they turned into yummy blobs instead. Is their some secret not mentioned on how to do this?

Reply
Vera Zecevic October 27, 2014 - 9:41 pm

Hi Ashley, I’m really sorry to hear that. I really don’t why that happen with your truffles, maybe your melted chocolate was too hot?

Hi!! These are super cute and looks like a lot of fun to make with kids. I am curious to know if I can omit the pop all together and use something else? Hat does the pop do for the recipe? Can I use a chocolate syrup? Thank you in advance!!!!

Hi Lisa, I haven’t tried it that way by I think they might turn out too sweet with chocolate syrup.
